Home - Akita JET English Contest
The Akita JET English Contest is an English competition for junior high students currently in their first year. The competition involves an English test administered in April by the student’s JET while the student and JET are videoed. The videos (tapes or DVDs) are then sent to the judges, who determine the top 20 students. The top 20 students are awarded a place at the AJEC summer camp, as well as other prizes listed below.

The Akita JET English Contest is designed to encourage communicative English. It provides JETs with the opportunity to be actively involved in English language education and to increase awareness of the role that JETs play in English language education system.

By preparing for the contest in small groups or one-on-one with their assistant language teachers, AJEC participants have the opportunity to greatly improve their confidence in using English, while also actively improving their communication abilities. The test itself is based on the grammar and vocabulary taught during the first year of junior high, and so by preparing for the contest the students are re-enforcing their knowledge base of English and making their foundation for learning stronger.

The contest will be coordinated by the JETs in the Akita area.
